I Like Big Bundts
I like big bundts and I cannot lie (I know this Sir-Mix-a-Lot line has been used with bundt cakes over and over, but I couldn’t resist.). Bundts are just awesome!
Making a beautiful layer cake can take some serious time and effort and cause some stress. You make your 3 separate layers, hoping you made them all the same size, and then ice them together. All the while, praying it’s not lopsided and you can’t see crumbs in the icing. For me this spells stress and anxiety. I need a Xanax before baking a layer cake.
Making a bundt is a much more relaxing event. You make the same or very similar batter and put it in one elegant pan (not 3). A bundt doesn’t necessarily need an icing or glaze. You can serve it plain, dusted with powered sugar or a glaze. This is a low stress cake and I need no medication before baking.

Can You Use Normal Cake Batter In A Bundt Pan?
When I bake with my bundt pan, I usually bake a pound cake recipe or bake a bundt cake recipe. I know I’ve put a layer cake recipe in a bundt pan somewhere in my baking past and it came out just fine.
However, is putting a layer cake recipe in a bundt normally a good idea and will it most likely come out bundtiful? According to this post by Cooks Illustrated, it is fine to do this. Just realize, that you will need to bake the cake much longer (you are baking a larger cake instead or 2 or 3 smaller ones) and the texture will be a bit denser than that of a layer cake.
