Super yummy and easy dessert bars. A brown sugar crust topped with melted chocolate chips and nuts.
Seriously friends these are some of the best dessert bars in the world. I was taking dinner to friends and needed an easy make ahead dessert bar that can freeze super well. Thank goodness I ran across this simple recipe in my Grace By The Sea Good Food Cookbook.
Rich Chocolate Nut Bars
I don’t think of dessert bars as rich, that’s saved for cheesecake, pecan pie, pound cake, etc. (you know, briefly on your lips and forever on your hips). However, that changed when I made and tasted these heavenly gems.
These bars tasted amazingly delicious. That’s proven by the fact, I hate 3 out of the gate. However, they weren’t just delicious, they were packed with scrumptious, nutty flavor and they were rich.
This is due to the 2 cups of chocolate chips combined with maple syrup, butter and nuts stacked on a brown sugar crust. Oh friends, it’s quite delightful, but it’s not for the faint of heart.
If you’re looking for a light, healthy snack this is not your friend. But, if you love chocolate and nuts piled on a brown sugar and butter crust and if you love rich calories, this is not only your friend, it’s your lover.
As well as crawling with rich and indulgent calories, they are easy to make and freeze really well. These chocolate nut bars can be used for dessert and snacking. They are also easy to throw in a container and tote to a friend or on vacation.
So, if you’d like to live on the edge and throw calories to the wind, these rich, indulgent chocolate nut bars are screaming to you and saying, “BAKE ME TODAY”.

Are Walnuts And Pecans Interchangeable in Baking?
Yes and hallelujah, I use walnuts for pecans all the time when baking.
According to this post from Millican Pecan, walnuts tend to be a bit bitter compared to other nuts and have a crunchy texture. Pecans tend to have a more distinctive flavor and contain a slightly sweeter taste. Despite these small differences walnuts and pecans can usually be used interchangeably in most recipes.
