Made with melted Milky Ways and topped with chocolate marshmallow frosting, this cake is simply indulgent.
I ran across this Milky Way Candy Bar Cake recipe in my Amish Country Cookbook. How can anyone who remotely likes sugar pass this recipe up?
A cake made with Milky Way candy bars. I immediately stopped flipping pages and began salivating like a Pavlovian dog when I saw this.
CAKE MADE WITH MELTED CANDY BARS
When I first saw this Milky Way candy bar cake recipe and started my Pavlovian Dog salivating, I imagined a luscious chocolate cake with pieces of Milky Way Bars throughout the cake. I further imagined it topped with a heavenly chocolate ganache.
Now what I imagined would be amazing (and there’s an idea for an upcoming cake), but as I read this cake recipe I realized I was envisioning something totally different. And, as it turns out, that was just fine.
No, instead of having pieces of Milky Way Bars throughout the cake, this cake is made with 24 melted fun size Milky Way Bars. Yes, 24 fun size Milky Ways melted in butter (I know you just gained 10 pounds reading that.) and incorporated in the cake batter. Help me!!!!
It was also topped with a thick chocolate marshmallow cream frosting, which turned out to be just as yummy as the chocolate ganache I had originally imagined. Again, Help Me!!!!
Oh friends, this cake is the definition of indulgent. It’s not a chocolate cake. It is literally a Milky Way candy bar cake. Yes, you make Milky Way batter and then bake it (I salivate as I write this).
When it came to eating a piece, I just gave into temptation. Forget I’ll just have a little slice. No, I cut myself a huge chunk of a piece and treasured every bite. When it comes to this cake, just forget trying to resist temptation.

HISTORY OF THE MILKY WAY CANDY BAR
After making this cake and researching this post, I wondered about the history of this great American candy bar.
According to this post by Snack History, the Milky Way Bar was invented by Franklin Clarence Mars in 1923. It was first sold in 1924 and had $800,000 of sales that year. By 1926 there were two versions of the bar, the chocolate nougat with milk chocolate coating, and vanilla nougat with a dark chocolate coating. Both versions are still sold today.
CAKES DECORATED WITH CANDY BARS
One of my favorite ways to decorate a cake made in a bundt of tube pan is with pieces of candy bar. I put a glaze, icing or ganache on the cake and then place pieces of cut up candy on top around the center whole.
As well as doing it with this Milky Way Candy Bar Cake, I did this with my peanut butter pound cake. I applied a chocolate ganache to the cake and then topped the cake with pieces of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It turned out amazing. You can check out the post here.
