These easy Nutella cupcakes are a decadent chocolate cupcake with a heavenly Nutella cream cheese filling.

I got the idea for Nutella Filled Cupcakes while I was making my Raspberry Black Bottom Cupcakes. The thought of a Nutella cheesecake filling in the middle of a rich, moist chocolate cupcake just sounded so sinfully delicious. How could I not make it, right?

Have you ever been to the Cheesecake Factory and just stared, through the glass, at all the SINcakes (I mean cheesecakes)?  I have, and I do it while salivating like a Pavlovian dog?

In this lineup of lustful desserts, that are just calling my name, there is a Nutella Cheesecake. This cheesecake is ranked in the Cheesecake Factory’s top seven cheesecakes according to this post by Guilty Treats.

This decadent Nutella Cheesecake is what is in the center of these Nutella filled cupcakes (well, maybe not exactly the same recipe). What a beautiful thing. Yes, let’s have a moment of silence.

Nutella Cupcakes, Easy And Irresistible

My advise here is to save yourself the emotional trauma and don’t even try to resist the temptation of these Nutella filled cupcakes.

The cream cheese and Nutella combo create a moist pocket of indulgence in the middle of this rich, decadent chocolate cupcake.

So, though these Nutella filled cupcakes may not be the best looking cupcakes, (you know the ones that are piled high with frosting like Marge Simpson’s hair) they have a flavor and taste that will not allow you to stop at one.

In addition to being full of rich, delicious flavor they are also easy to make. The ingredients are simple and the recipe is no hassle with no frosting of cupcakes (unless you’d like to add a frosting).

Chocolate Nutella Cupcake Key Ingredients

  • cream cheese room temperature – room temperature cream cheese incorporates so much easier than cold cream cheese.
  • nutella (or any hazelnut spread)- this needs to be room temperature.
  • sugar
  • chocolate chips – mini or regular size
  • cake flour sifted – cake flour can clump together easily, so it is good to sift.
  • cocoa sifted – this can easily leave small lumps it not sifted.
  • baking soda – reacts with vinegar to make cupcakes rise.
  • cooking oil
  • vinegar – reacts with baking soda to make cupcakes rise.

Can You Freeze Cheesecake Filled Cupcakes?

Oh yes you can!!! These freeze so well. This allows you to bake ahead and freeze or freeze the leftovers (let’s keep the leftover cupcakes in the freezer and not on our hips).

These are so easy to freeze. Just follow these steps:

Cool Cupcakes Completely

Condensation will be created by any residual heat. Let them cool at least an hour.

Wrap Cupcakes

Wrap your cupcakes in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. You can wrap as many as you like together. No need to wrap them individually if you don’t want to.

Store In Freezer Bag Or Container

Place and seal in a freezer bag or freezer container. They can be frozen up to 3 months.

How To Defrost Cupcakes

The best way to defrost your cupcakes is to defrost your cupcakes at room temperature while they are wrapped. Defrosting them unwrapped can result in condensation forming on the cupcakes. This causes sticky cupcake tops and can slightly ruin your masterpiece.

I like to make these, because they taste amazing, they’re simple to make and there’s no need to frost. Essentially, the frosting is in the center. It’s a very indulgent piece of cupcake art for very little effort.

Ingredients In Nutella Filling For Cupcakes

  • 4 ounces cream cheese room temperature
  • 1 egg unbeaten
  • cup Nutella or any hazelnut spread room temperature and make it a heaping ⅓ cup of Nutella
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips anywhere between ½ and 1 cup. you can use mini or regular size chips.

Ingredients In Simple Chocolate Cupcakes

  • cups cake flour sifted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • cup baking oil I used vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Instructions

Instructions For Nutella Filling For Cupcakes

  • Cream the cream cheese and Nutella well.
  • Add sugar and cream well.
  • Add unbeaten egg and mix.
  • Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Put this mixture aside.

Instructions For Simple Chocolate Cupcakes

  • Combine all the cupcake ingredients in a medium mixing bowl and mix. Make sure lumps are gone.
  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Fill muffin liners a little more than ⅓ of the way full with the chocolate cupcake batter.
  • Place a heaping teaspoon full of the cream cheese/Nutella mixture on top of the chocolate cupcake batter. It will sink a bit.

  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and devour.

Notes

This will make 18 – 22 cupcakes.
These are delicious without a frosting.  However, if you’d like to frost, I’m sure these would be amazing with a cream cheese frosting or a Nutella cream cheese frosting.
