Peach Pie With Crumble Topping and Crust

Crustless Peach Crumble Pie Recipe

In many ways this is an easy peach pie recipe with fresh peaches; however, there is absolutely no, nada, traditional pie crust here.

In this crustless fruit pie, the buttery cinnamony crumble is both your bottom crust and your crumbly topping on top.  As I said above, this crustless peach pie recipe is really a peach crumble pie.

As you can see, the crumble plays 2 starring roles in this crustless peach pie.

It’s first starring role is as bottom crust.  In this role one cup of the crumble is simply pressed on the bottom and sides of the pie pan to act as bottom crust.

Crumble’s second starring role is one it plays often and it is as crumble topping.  The sweet, buttery crumble is used to cover the sweet peaches to act as crumble topping.

Folks, the crumble takes home culinary Oscars for its yummy performance in both roles. Yes, the cinnamony, buttery crumble surrounds the sweet peaches on bottom and top.  The crumble and peaches form a dynamic, delicious duo that make this crustlees peach pie a sensational peachy, summer (or anytime of year) treat.

Once those peaches are all chopped, you will make a simple buttery, cinnamon crumble.  Half of that crumble is then pressed on the bottom and sides of the pie pan.  The peaches are then placed in the pie pan over the crumble crust and they are topped with the remainder of the crumble.  After that’s it’s off to the oven to bake.

Is It No Crust Peach Cobbler

I know I said above, that this no crust peach pie is much like a peach crumble pie with it’s cinnamony peaches and it’s buttery, cinnamony crumble.  However, it could also be confused for a no crust peach cobbler pie.

Seriously, it tastes like Mama’s old fashioned peach cobbler in a pie pan instead of a rectangle or square pan.  All those juicy, sweet peaches matched with that yummy, sweet topping, you just don’t know what type of delicious peach dessert you’re devouring.

Tools Used In Crustless Peach Pie

Crustless Peach Pie Recipe Ingredients

  • All purpose flour – make sure you use all purpose and there’s no need to sift the flour.
  • Granulated sugar – for the crumble
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg – optional, this gives a slight, warm nutty flavor that matches delightfully with the peaches and cinnamon.
  • Salt
  • Butter – room temperature, make sure it’s not to soft or melted.  Room temperature butter is so much easier to incorporate with a fork than cold butter.

Should I Use Fresh Peaches For No Crust Peach Pie

When peach baking fresh peaches are the Beyonce or Taylor Swift of peaches.  Fresh peaches are truly pure magic and make the best peach desserts.  However, sometimes there’s no way we can use fresh peaches, so we need a culinary cover band or artist like frozen or canned peaches.  They’re not the real thing, but they’re quite tasty substitutes.

Frozen Peaches In Crustless Peach Pie

If you are using frozen peaches in this recipe you will need need to substitute 1 pound of frozen peaches for every 3 peaches.  This will be 2 to 3 bags for this simple no crust peach pie recipe.

According to Sally’s Baking Addiction , you will need to thaw the frozen peaches first.  This can be done naturally or in 30 second increments in the microwave.  After thawing you can cut the slices in half if you like.  You will also need to blot them dry before using.  This will help get rid of excess liquid.

Canned Peaches In Crustless Peach Pie

If using canned peaches, according to the post by Taste Of Home,  you will need one 16 ounce can of canned peaches for every 3 peaches.  This will be 2 to 3 cans of canned peaches for this recipe.

Please be aware that canned peaches are cooked and are softer and more tender than fresh or frozen peaches.

Drain your canned peaches first and blot them with a paper towel before using.  You can cut the peach slices in half if you like.

Since you will be mixing your peaches with 1/2 cup sugar, you may want to use unsweetend canned peaches.  However, you may want to use canned peaches in heavy syrup and that’s just fine. It’s up to you.

Can You Peel Peaches For Crustless Pie

Yes you can, if you’d like.  In fact, the original recipe for this no crust peach pie actually called for peeling your peaches.

However, due to a bit of laziness on my part, I neglected to peel the peaches and made this peachy dessert with fully clothed, skins on peaches.

I’m so glad I did because it just bursted with peachy goodness and the peach skins melted right in with the peachy filling (ok, I do think I found one detached peach skin).

So, if you really detest peach skins, you can peel your peaches; however, there’s no need to peel.
